Wiz Khalifa
The rapper known as Wiz Khalifa (the “Wiz” is short for “wisdom”) is from Pennsylvania but says he makes music with a worldwide sensibility. To wit: He recently collaborated on British rapper Tinie Tempah’s single ‘Till I’m Gone’, produced by the Norwegian production team Stargate. (But he still has hometown pride: His first number one single, 2010’s ‘Black and Yellow’, is a tribute to local team the Steelers.)
Wiz Khalifa released his first mixtape in 2005 and his debut album back in 2006, but made a serious impression on the music scene this year with his first major-label album, Rolling Papers. He was named Best New Artist at the 2011 BET Awards.
